My Saxophone Journey
|
Saxophone is an amazing instrument; she is brilliant like brass but expressive & lyric like violin sometimes! Like many others, I started to learn saxophone on alto and later, I had a chance to play tenor & soprano saxophones. Although fingering systems are the same, voicing is somehow different and I really like alto saxophone most.

My Favorite Saxophonist

For alto saxophone players, I like Candy Dulfer & Kaori Kobayashi very much. I love their brilliant and powerful sound. Candy's "Sax-A-Go-Go" & Kaori's "Glow" albums are residents of my CD player always.
John Coltrane is one of my favorite tenor players, he was not only focused on one single type of music but many, like hard-bop, cool jazz, modal & free jazz. "I'm Old-Fashioned" from his album "Blue Train" is my number one favorite.
Saxophone is not only for Jazz music but also classical, Arno Bornkamp is my favorite classical saxophone player. His playing and quality of tone produced are beautiful & elegant. Especially, his playing on Pequena Czarda and Aria really impressed me a lot. I would recommend his "The Classical Saxophone" to all classical saxophone music lovers.

To me, there is no fast track in learning saxophone and the persistence of learning can only achieved by passion, patient, curiosity and love for music. All saxophone lovers, let's learn, play & improve together.
